Mardan: A special awareness program was organized at KMU–Institute of Health Sciences (KMU-IHS) Mardan under the auspices of Integrated Regional Support Programme (IRSP), where students were given a detailed briefing on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013.
The purpose of the session was to promote awareness among young people about their legal right to access information, transparent governance, and the concept of accountability.The event was attended by the Director of the institution, Professor Dr. Hamid Habib, Coordinator Noorullah Qalandar, Khitab Shah, IRSP Program Coordinator and Manager Advocacy Muhammad Ismail, Program Manager Aziz Ahmad, Nasir Khan, Syeda Nosheen Sardar, along with faculty members and a large number of students.While expressing their views, the speakers emphasized that the Right to Information Act grants citizens a formal legal authority to request information from government departments. They explained that every public department is bound to appoint a Public Information Officer who is responsible for providing the requested information to applicants within a stipulated time frame.
During the discussion, it was highlighted that the right to access information plays a fundamental role in preventing corruption, improving institutional performance, and restoring public trust. According to the speakers, informed youth are not only better equipped to defend their rights but can also actively contribute to social reform and positive change.The program concluded with a question-and-answer session in which students raised queries regarding the practical implementation and procedures of the law. Experts provided detailed guidance. Participants appreciated the initiative and noted that such activities in educational institutions help strengthen democratic awareness and legal literacy. The organizers thanked all guests and participants and expressed their commitment to continuing such programs in the future.
