ISMAILIA (Egypt): Pakistan continued their impressive run in the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup Qualifier Round with a 4-2 victory over Austria in their third match of the tournament in Ismailia on Wednesday.The event, being held from March 1 to 7, serves as a key pathway to the 2026 FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup.According to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), after a closely contested first half, Pakistan showed resilience and attacking flair in the latter stages to overpower Austria.
Abu Bakar Mahmood was the standout performer, scoring twice in quick succession to turn the momentum in Pakistan’s favour. Afraz and Muhammad Sufyan Khan added one goal each to seal the convincing win. For Austria, Maximilian Kellner and Maximilian Scholz scored a goal apiece.Pakistan’s disciplined structure, improved penalty corner execution and sharp counterattacks proved decisive as they secured their third successive victory to remain unbeaten in the qualifier round.Following the win, PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, along with Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui, Hassan Sardar and Chief Selector Samiullah Khan, congratulated the team and expressed confidence ahead of the semifinals.
