The Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in the Kingdom of the Netherlands will host the First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses from September 4–6, 2026, marking a historic milestone in the international recognition and promotion of one of the world’s oldest and most treasured horse breeds.The championship will bring together breeders, owners, equestrian experts, judges, and enthusiasts from across the globe, providing a unique platform for international cooperation and the celebration of the legendary Akhal-Teke horse.
Regarded as the national heritage and pride of the Turkmen people, the Akhal-Teke horse has long symbolized beauty, elegance, endurance, intelligence, and loyalty. Through Turkmenistan’s sustained efforts to preserve and promote this ancient breed, the Akhal-Teke has earned worldwide recognition as one of the finest horse breeds in existence.The inaugural championship represents a significant step in enhancing the breed’s global profile and reflects growing international appreciation for its exceptional qualities and rich historical legacy.
Among the event’s major attractions will be performances by the renowned “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group and artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan. A high-level governmental and cultural delegation from Turkmenistan will also travel to the Netherlands to participate in the championship’s extensive program.Beyond the sporting competitions, the three-day event will feature a diverse lineup of activities, including equestrian contests, the traditional Akhal-Teke beauty competition, an international scientific and practical conference on the preservation, breeding, and promotion of the breed, and a large-scale exhibition highlighting Turkmen culture, traditional crafts, and national heritage.The championship is expected to strengthen international collaboration in equestrian sports while showcasing the enduring cultural and historical significance of the Akhal-Teke horse to a global audience.
