U.S.-based Firebird selects Kazakhstan as its second major market, partnering with Kazakhtelecom to build large-scale AI infrastructure and a 125 MW data center in Ekibastuz.
Kazakhstan is rapidly emerging as a major destination for artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure, with U.S.-based technology company Firebird selecting the country as the second market for its global AI infrastructure network.Firebird, in partnership with Kazakhtelecom, is developing the Data Center Valley, a state-of-the-art facility with a planned capacity of 125 megawatts, in Ekibastuz.The project was announced during the opening of Firebird’s AI campus in Razdan, Armenia, attended by Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, representatives of NVIDIA, the U.S. government and international technology investors.
The project has received official clearance from Kazakhstan, along with U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) export licenses for advanced technologies.NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang highlighted Kazakhstan’s growing role in the global AI ecosystem, saying that NVIDIA and Firebird are building AI infrastructure in Armenia and Kazakhstan to provide researchers, startups and industries with the computing capacity needed to develop AI technologies.Kazakhstan is also accelerating development of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic corridor, which is expected to establish a high-speed data route to Europe and further strengthen the country’s position as a regional center for data centers and AI infrastructure.
Deputy Prime Minister Madiyev said Kazakhstan is building its own AI ecosystem by leveraging its energy resources, land availability and digital infrastructure to host large-scale computing capacity.The government is also working to strengthen data security, improve regulatory frameworks and attract leading international technology companies and investors.Firebird has announced an ambitious plan to expand its global AI infrastructure network to 2 gigawatts of capacity by 2028, covering Armenia, Kazakhstan and other international markets.
Meanwhile, NVIDIA has also announced plans to invest in Firebird, further strengthening the company’s expansion strategy.The development comes after the Government of Kazakhstan, Firebird and NVIDIA signed a package of agreements worth $10 billion in the field of artificial intelligence, marking a major step toward positioning Kazakhstan as a leading AI and digital technology hub in Central Asia.
