ASTANA: Kazakhstan is making rapid progress on the development of its first Data Center Valley, a major digital infrastructure project designed to strengthen the country’s position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services.Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of AI and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev, along with the Chairman of the Board of JSC Kazakhtelecom, was briefed on the ongoing construction and development work.Construction of the first Data Center Valley facility, with a planned capacity of 50 MW, is progressing rapidly. Excavation for the energy centers and AI factories is around 90% complete, while foundation work for the energy centers has begun.
Administrative and utility buildings are also under construction.The main data center and energy facilities, administrative buildings, checkpoints and parts of the external engineering networks are expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Pre-commissioning activities are scheduled to conclude by May 2027, with the first facility targeted for commissioning in June 2027.The project’s supporting infrastructure is also being developed. A 215 MW substation has been acquired to supply electricity, while water supply networks have been designed and telecommunications infrastructure is being planned. An online video surveillance system is already operating at the construction site to enable round-the-clock monitoring.In the long term, Data Center Valley is planned to scale up in phases to a total capacity of up to 1 GW.The facility is being developed as a scalable platform for data centers, AI factories, GPU clusters and cloud platforms operated by international hyperscalers. The project is expected to create a new export-oriented segment of Kazakhstan’s digital economy, while providing advanced infrastructure for the development of domestic AI solutions.“Data Center Valley is shaping Kazakhstan’s new export potential.
By placing computing power inside the country, we are creating conditions for the growth of domestic AI solutions, attracting global companies, and positioning Kazakhstan on the international digital services market,” Zhaslan Madiyev said.Earlier, it was reported that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is exploring investment opportunities in the development of a data center network in Kazakhstan, highlighting growing international interest in the country’s digital infrastructure sector.
