Khaqan Waheed Khawaja Calls for Immediate Action Over Tragic PIMS Incident

ISLAMABAD (IN): Pakistan Awami Quwwat Party Chairman and Chairman of Rawal General & Dental Hospital and Rawal Foundation, Khaqan Waheed Khawaja, has called on the government to take strict and immediate action over the tragic incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), stressing that effective measures must be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.In a statement, Khaqan Waheed Khawaja said he had been highlighting for a long time the need to improve and strengthen healthcare facilities across the country.He pointed out that Islamabad, a city with a population of around 2.8 million, has only two government hospitals, which he described as grossly inadequate to meet the healthcare needs of the population.

He said these hospitals also suffer from a severe shortage of facilities and a lack of an effective system.“There is no effective government writ in these hospitals,” he said, adding that patients face immense difficulties and, in many cases, cannot secure beds without recommendations or influence. He said the deteriorating situation had reached a point where people were even reluctant to seek treatment at government hospitals.Khaqan expressed his deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the newborn babies who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

He demanded that an immediate judicial inquiry be conducted to determine the facts and fix responsibility for the incident.He also called for adequate compensation to be provided to the bereaved families and urged the government to take emergency measures to improve hospital management, facilities and healthcare systems so that such tragic incidents do not occur again.
