Voter turnout reaches 73.12%, nearly 87% of citizens back proposed constitutional changes
Vote counting for the referendum on the new Constitution in Kazakhstan concluded at 08:00 a.m. on March 16, with preliminary results indicating strong public support for the proposed constitutional amendments.
According to the Election Commission, voter turnout reached 73.12%, with 9,127,192 citizens casting their ballots. Initial data shows that 7,954,667 voters, representing 87.15%, supported the adoption of the amendments, while 898,099 voted against them. A total of 146,558 ballots were declared invalid. Regionally, support for the amendments was particularly high in areas such as Pavlodar, Aktobe, Mangystau, Zhambyl, and Turkistan, where approval exceeded 90%.
Major cities including Astana, Shymkent, and Almaty also recorded strong backing for the proposed changes. Earlier, exit poll results related to the referendum on the new Constitution had also indicated significant support for the amendments.
