Pakistan, Ethiopia Explore Cooperation in Higher Education, Digital Skills and Innovation

ISLAMABAD, October 9, 2026: Ethiopia and Pakistan have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in education, focusing on higher education, technical and vocational training, student exchanges, research and institutional linkages.The agreement was discussed during a meeting between Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Oumer H. Oba and Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui in Islamabad on Thursday.Ambassador Dr. Oumer highlighted the importance of educational collaboration in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting shared progress across the Global South.

He said Ethiopia was prioritising skills development in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, blockchain and robotics.He also highlighted the success of the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders initiative, led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, aimed at equipping young people with digital skills and expanding the country’s skilled workforce.

Federal Minister Siddiqui appreciated Ethiopia’s economic progress and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening relations with African countries, particularly Ethiopia. He assured the ambassador of Pakistan’s support for cooperation in higher education, technical and vocational training, technology and innovation.
