ISLAMABAD: His Excellency Alisher Tukhtaev, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, called on Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of higher education.
The meeting, also attended by HEC Executive Director Dr. Zia Ul Haq, focused on enhancing academic collaboration between the two countries. Both sides deliberated on promoting joint research initiatives, student and faculty exchange programmes, and capacity-building through specialized training.They also discussed the possibility of joint accreditation of degree programmes aimed at improving quality assurance and ensuring international recognition of academic credentials.A key highlight of the meeting was the proposal to establish a campus of Tashkent State Medical University in Pakistan.
The initiative was described as a significant step toward deepening academic ties and expanding access to quality medical education.Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan’s medical education sector through knowledge sharing and technical collaboration. Ambassador Tukhtaev appreciated Pakistan’s expertise in higher education and expressed interest in further strengthening bilateral engagement.Both sides agreed to formalize their cooperation through structured partnerships, emphasizing the vital role of higher education in fostering stronger Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations.
