Istanbul, Türkiye (IN) — Indonesia’s House of Representatives Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) has voiced strong criticism of Israel’s recent military actions in the Middle East during the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from April 15 to 19, 2026.BKSAP Chairman Syahrul Aidi Maazat said the committee condemned what it described as Israeli attacks on United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of three Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel. He stated that such actions were unacceptable as they targeted peacekeeping operations.
The committee also criticized ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, including continued airstrikes, and referred to recently proposed Israeli legislation related to the death penalty for Palestinians.During his remarks, Maazat urged greater international unity, warning that escalating tensions in the region could further destabilize global peace and security.Separately, BKSAP Deputy Chair Muhammad Husein Fadlulloh emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of national parliaments within United Nations mechanisms. Speaking at a discussion session on the UN’s role, he said parliamentary participation is essential to ensuring more effective implementation of international programs.
