Displaced in Beirut Face Dire Conditions Despite Ceasefire

In Beirut, thousands of displaced residents continue to endure harsh living conditions despite an ongoing ceasefire, following renewed clashes between Israel and Hezbollah that forced many to flee their homes.

Footage shows families sheltering in a makeshift camp set up in a parking lot, where basic necessities such as clean water, sanitation, and electricity remain scarce. Displaced residents say they have received little to no humanitarian assistance, worsening their already fragile situation. One displaced man, Rabie Khreis, said they had urged authorities to install public toilets and street lighting to improve safety and living conditions at night.

He added that he fled his home with nothing but the clothes he was wearing and now struggles to provide for his children.Residents also highlighted growing financial hardships and uncertainty about the future, particularly as they remain unable to return to their homes beyond the Israeli-established “yellow line” in southern Lebanon.According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, at least 2,419 people have been killed and 7,719 injured since fighting resumed on March 2, with more than one million people displaced. On April 15, Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which was later extended on April 23 for an additional three weeks following rare direct talks between officials from both sides in Washington, D.C.Meanwhile, Israeli forces have instructed residents of more than 80 towns in southern Lebanon not to return, citing ongoing military operations.

Israel has also proposed establishing a long-term “security zone” stretching to the Litani River, covering around 10 percent of Lebanese territory.Displaced residents have called on the Lebanese government and the international community to act urgently, warning that the ceasefire holds little value without a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese land.
