Russian Embassy Celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan and the Defence Attaché’s Office hosted a reception on February 23 to mark Defender of the Fatherland Day, bringing together distinguished guests from diplomatic and military circles.

The event was attended by Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, Russian Defence Attaché Colonel Vadim Fenchenko, members of the embassy staff, Pakistani military officials, representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps, and senior officials from the host country. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Air Marshal Shakeel Ghazanfar, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Khorev highlighted the historical significance of Defender of the Fatherland Day and paid tribute to the distinguished victories of the Russian army and navy. He remembered prominent military commanders who played key roles in Russia’s history, including Alexander Nevsky, Alexander Suvorov, Mikhail Kutuzov, Georgy Zhukov, Konstantin Rokossovsky, and Alexander Vasilevsky.The ambassador emphasized that despite what he described as unprecedented pressure and opposition from the “collective West,” the Russian armed forces continue to play a central role in ensuring national security, protecting civilians, and safeguarding Russia’s sovereign right to pursue an independent path of development.

Colonel Fenchenko, in his remarks, underscored the structured and consistent nature of Russia–Pakistan defence cooperation, describing it as an important mechanism for building mutual trust and enhancing predictability in international relations.Concluding the ceremony, the Russian Embassy extended its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the defenders of the Fatherland on the occasion of their professional holiday.
