Mardan: Muhammad Ismail, Program Coordinator and Manager Advocacy at the non-governmental organization IRSP, stated that under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013, citizens have a constitutional and legal right to obtain information from public institutions. He said this right not only promotes transparency but also plays a key role in strengthening the democratic system.
He expressed these views while addressing a panel discussion held at Defence College for Girls, Baghdada, Mardan, organized jointly by IRSP and TDEA. On the occasion, Administrator of Defence College for Girls Pir Azam, Principal Kalli Azam,Dr. Muhammad Fida (coordinator BS), IRSP’s Nasir Khan, Syeda Nosheen Sardar, and a large number of female students attended the event.In his speech, Muhammad Ismail said that through the Right to Information law, citizens can monitor the performance of government departments, which helps eliminate corruption and strengthens the accountability system. He emphasized that it is very important to raise awareness among the younger generation, especially female students, about their rights so that they can play their role as responsible and informed citizens in the future.Other speakers at the event also highlighted that access to information is a fundamental right of every citizen, enabling the public to ensure transparency in government policies and decisions.
They stressed that organizing such awareness programs in educational institutions is the need of the hour to awaken consciousness among youth and empower them to raise their voices effectively for their rights.During the panel discussion, the students showed great interest and asked various questions to understand the usefulness, procedures, and practical implementation of the law. The speakers responded satisfactorily and also guided them on how to use this law in practical life.At the end of the event, the speakers expressed their commitment to continue organizing such programs in the future to promote transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in society.
