Donald Trump Peace Initiative: Indonesia Suspends Participation Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Indonesia has suspended all discussions related to the Board of Peace initiative launched by Donald Trump, citing the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East, according to media reports on Friday.Foreign Minister Sugiono said the decision was made in response to the latest developments in the region, noting that the conflict and rising tensions have significantly affected the foreign policy priorities of countries involved in the initiative. He explained that global attention has shifted toward the consequences of the conflict involving Iran, which has heightened instability across the region.

Sugiono added that Jakarta will now hold intensive consultations with partners in the Gulf region, which he said are directly impacted by the ongoing attacks and security concerns.Indonesia’s participation in the initiative has also faced criticism from domestic political and religious groups. Critics argue that joining a council associated with the Trump administration could undermine Indonesia’s long-standing support for the Palestine cause. In the same context, the Indonesian Ulema Council called for an immediate withdrawal from the initiative, stating that the body lacks effectiveness while military operations in the region continue.

The decision to suspend participation comes as regional tensions remain high and diplomatic discussions surrounding the initiative face increasing scrutiny, the Middle East Monitor reported.
