The race to the knockout stage of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has intensified, with the semi-final picture beginning to take clear shape as the Super 8 stage nears its conclusion.The top two teams from each Super 8 group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for March 4 and 5. In this stage, each team plays the other three sides in its group once. Standings are determined by points and number of wins, with Net Run Rate (NRR) serving as the tiebreaker if teams are level.
England First to Qualify from Group 2
England cricket team became the first side to book a semi-final berth from Group 2. The two-time champions opened their Super 8 campaign with a commanding 51-run win over Sri Lanka national cricket team in Kandy, followed by another victory over Pakistan national cricket team at the same venue.The result secured England’s place in the semi-finals for a fifth consecutive edition and marked their sixth overall top-four finish in 10 tournaments.Sri Lanka were the first team eliminated from Group 2 after suffering a 61-run defeat to New Zealand national cricket team in Colombo. New Zealand and Pakistan remain in contention for the second qualification spot
South Africa Lead Group 1 Charge
In Group 1, South Africa national cricket team became the first team to secure qualification after registering wins against India national cricket team and the West Indies cricket team.Zimbabwe national cricket team were the first side eliminated from Group 1 following a 72-run defeat to India in Chennai.The crucial clash between India and the West Indies at Eden Gardens on Sunday will determine the second semi-finalist from the group.
Semi-Final and Final Venue Scenarios
As per the tournament draw, the Group 2 winners will face the Group 1 runners-up, while the Group 1 winners will meet the Group 2 runners-up.The first semi-final on March 4 remains a floating fixture. If Pakistan qualify, the match will be held at R Premadasa Stadium. In any other scenario, it will take place at Eden Gardens.The second semi-final on March 5 is scheduled at Wankhede Stadium.The final of the 2026 T20 World Cup will be played on March 8. If Pakistan reach the final, it will be staged in Colombo; otherwise, the title clash will be held in Ahmedabad.
