JAKARTA: Indonesia has reiterated its readiness to take a more active role in advancing a just and sustainable peace for Palestine, including participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) and the International Stabilization Force (ISF).
Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed the commitment during a bilateral meeting with Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin on the sidelines of the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, on February 23.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono emphasized that Jakarta would work to ensure that any transition process reflects the aspirations of the Palestinian people and adheres to international law. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to sustaining the ceasefire and advancing a credible political process toward a Two-State Solution.
Regarding Indonesia’s planned contribution to the ISF, the foreign minister highlighted that the primary focus of the Indonesian contingent would be civilian protection and humanitarian assistance.Sugiono also welcomed the Palestinian Authority’s initiative to establish a Liaison Office to enhance coordination with the Board of Peace.Indonesia officially joined the Board of Peace—an initiative announced by Donald Trump—on January 22, 2026, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
At the inaugural Board of Peace meeting in Washington, DC, on February 19, President Prabowo Subianto declared Indonesia’s readiness to deploy up to 8,000 Indonesian National Armed Forces personnel to serve alongside the International Stabilization Force in Gaza.Indonesia has also been appointed Deputy Commander of the ISF and is expected to play an operational role as one of the largest troop-contributing countries to the peace mission.The Palestinian foreign minister expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s steadfast political backing and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.Meanwhile, Indonesia will continue mobilizing international support for Palestine through various global platforms, including the upcoming D-8 Summit scheduled for April 15, 2026, in Jakarta.
As chair of the D-8 for the 2026–2027 term, Indonesia will host the summit under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity.” The organization, founded in 1997, comprises eight developing nations, with Azerbaijan joining as its newest member in December 2024.Indonesia also plans to convene a special session on Palestine on the sidelines of the summit and expressed hope to welcome a Palestinian delegation to Jakarta in the near future.
