ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has fixed February 28 as the final deadline for installation of M-Tags on motorcycles under the second phase of a citywide registration campaign aimed at strengthening monitoring and public safety.From March 1, motorcycles without M-Tags will not be allowed on roads in the federal capital. Vehicles found in violation of the directive will be taken into custody and shifted to police stations, officials said.According to the Directorate of Excise and Taxation, motorcycle owners can get their M-Tags installed until February 28, after which strict enforcement will begin across Islamabad.
Riding a motorcycle without an M-Tag will constitute a violation, and enforcement teams will take immediate action against defaulters.The Director General of Excise said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve vehicle identification, tracking and record management in the capital. He added that special enforcement squads will be deployed from March 1 to ensure full compliance with the directive.Officials shared that more than 2,000 motorcycles have already been issued M-Tags during the second phase of the campaign. The administration expects a significant increase in registrations as the deadline approaches.To facilitate the public, M-Tag centres will remain open on weekends and other holidays.
Additional staff have been deployed at registration centres to manage the anticipated rush and minimise waiting times.Authorities have advised motorcycle owners to complete the process well before the deadline to avoid inconvenience. Information desks have also been set up at centres to guide applicants regarding the procedure and required documents. Owners are required to present standard ownership documents to complete registration.The administration urged citizens to cooperate with the drive, emphasising that public participation is crucial for enhancing security and ensuring smooth implementation of the government’s measures.Officials reiterated that the M-Tag system will assist law enforcement agencies during routine checks and investigations, contributing to a safer and more secure Islamabad.
