Ahmedabad: South Africa national cricket team delivered a commanding all-round performance to crush India national cricket team by 76 runs in their Group 1 Super Eight clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Ahmedabad on Sunday. After electing to bat, South Africa posted a competitive 187 for 7, powered by a vintage knock from David Miller and a fearless display from young Dewald Brevis. Miller rolled back the years with a scintillating 63 off just 35 deliveries, striking the ball with authority at the death. Brevis contributed a brisk 45 off 29 balls as the duo stitched together a game-changing 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket in only 51 balls, rescuing the innings after early setbacks.India’s chase never gained momentum as South Africa’s bowlers executed their plans to perfection.
Marco Jansen led the charge with a fiery spell, claiming 4 for 22 to dismantle the middle order. Spinner Keshav Maharaj tightened the screws with figures of 3 for 24, while Corbin Bosch chipped in with two crucial wickets.Though Lungi Ngidi went wicketless, his disciplined bowling proved invaluable as he conceded just 15 runs in his four overs, effectively choking any hopes of an Indian revival. The co-hosts were eventually bundled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Shivam Dube emerged as India’s top scorer with a fighting 42 off 37 balls, but lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup. With this emphatic victory, South Africa strengthened their position in Group 1, while India were left to regroup after a heavy defeat on home soil.
