Millions of Vietnamese Vote in Parliamentary Elections, Show Strong Support for Stability and Development

HANOI: Millions of voters across Vietnam cast their ballots on Sunday in parliamentary and local council elections, demonstrating strong public participation in the country’s political process. Around 73.5 to 79 million eligible voters are taking part in the nationwide vote to elect 500 members of the National Assembly as well as representatives for local councils.

The elections highlight Vietnam’s commitment to political stability and national development. Most candidates in the race are members of the ruling Communist Party, reflecting the party’s central role in guiding the country’s economic growth, reforms, and long-term policy direction. According to the national election council, about 93% of the 864 candidates are Communist Party members, while the rest are independent candidates.Voters across the country expressed optimism about the future as they participated in the election.

Twenty-two-year-old first-time voter Phan Nam Khanh said he hopes the newly elected representatives will introduce policies that better support young people and guide the next generation in the right direction.Another voter, 67-year-old Nguyen Thi Hoa, said she remained enthusiastic about casting her vote and hopes the new leaders will continue to work in the interests of the people and further improve government efficiency.

The National Assembly plays an important role in supporting governance and shaping legislation, helping advance reforms that have contributed to Vietnam’s rapidly growing economy.Official election results are expected to be announced on March 23, while the opening session of the new parliament is scheduled for early April, when lawmakers are expected to approve the country’s top leadership.Earlier this year, To Lam was confirmed as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the most powerful political position in the country.

Analysts say the leadership’s reform policies and economic strategies have played a key role in Vietnam’s strong economic performance and modernization in recent years.
