Right to Information Act is an Effective Tool for Empowering Citizens, Says Muhammad Ismail

Mardan: Muhammad Ismail, Program Coordinator and Advocacy Manager of the non-governmental organization IRSP, said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013 is a landmark law that promotes transparency, accountability, and good governance in the province. Through this legislation, citizens have been granted a constitutional and legal right to obtain information from public institutions, which plays a significant role in strengthening the democratic system.

He expressed these views while addressing a panel discussion held at Vertex Institute Mardan, organized in collaboration with the NGOs IRSP and TDEA. On this occasion, he stated that the right to access information not only keeps citizens informed but also helps improve the performance of public institutions and prevents corruption.During the event, students were given a detailed briefing on the key features of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act 2013, including the procedure for submitting information requests, legal requirements for obtaining information, and the practical benefits of the law. The speakers emphasized that it is essential for the younger generation to be aware of this law so they can understand their rights and play a role in bringing positive change in society.

The event was attended by MD of Vertex Institute Shafiullah, Coordinator Dr. Adil Khaliq, Administration Officer Zakirullah, IRSP representatives Nasir Khan and Syeda Nosheen Sardar, along with faculty members and a large number of students. The speakers encouraged students to effectively use the right to information in order to promote social transparency and a culture of accountability.At the end of the event, commemorative shields were presented to the distinguished guests, while certificates were also distributed among the participating students. On this occasion, participants expressed their commitment to continue spreading awareness about the Right to Information law and to play their role in its effective implementation.
