Economic disparities, such as unequal distribution of resources and lack of opportunities, can also fuel conflicts as marginalized groups seek to address their grievances. Social divisions based on ethnicity, religion or ideology contribute to tension and animosity, leading to violence. Environmental factors like competition over scarce resources, climate change impacts, and natural disasters can exacerbate existing conflicts or trigger new ones. One of the primary drivers of rising conflicts threatening global stability is geopolitical competition among major powers. In recent years, geopolitical tensions between the United States, China, and Russia have intensified, leading to rivalries in various regions such as the South China Sea, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. These power struggles not only increase the risk of military confrontation but also contribute to the erosion of international norms and institutions, such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. Furthermore, the proliferation of advanced military technologies, including cyber warfare and hypersonic missiles, has raised the stakes in these competitions, making conflicts more dangerous and unpredictable.Another source of conflict that jeopardizes global stability is the resurgence of ethno-nationalism and identity politics. Across different parts of the world, ethnic, religious, and tribal divisions have fueled violent conflicts, leading to mass displacement, human rights abuses, and humanitarian crises. The rise of populist leaders who exploit these divisions for political gain further exacerbates these tensions, undermining social cohesion and fostering extremism. As countries for access to natural resources, markets, and strategic assets, economic rivalries can escalate into trade wars, sanctions, and even military conflicts. The increasing competition for energy resources, such as oil and gas, has heightened tensions in regions like the Middle East and East Asia. Moreover economic disparities within and between countries can fuel social unrest and political instability, leading to protests, riots and civil wars that disrupt global supply chains. The impacts of climate change, including extreme weather ends, sing sea levels, and food insecurity can exacerbate existing and trigger conflicts over scarce resources.
