Russia Presents Its Stance on Ukraine Conflict, Calls for Dialogue Amid Rising Global Tensions

Ambassador Albert P. Khorev briefs Pakistani journalists, highlights battlefield dynamics, humanitarian efforts, and concerns over Middle East escalation

Islamabad (IN) Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev held a detailed briefing for Pakistani journalists, outlining Russia’s position on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War and broader regional developments.During the briefing, the Ambassador described the conflict as part of a wider confrontation between Russia and the collective West. He claimed that the current situation on the front lines is in Russia’s favor, while also accusing Ukraine of intensifying strikes on Russian territory and civilian infrastructure.

Khorev noted that diplomatic engagement between the two sides continues, with multiple rounds of talks held in 2026. He highlighted some humanitarian progress, particularly prisoner exchanges, and reiterated that Russia remains open to a negotiated settlement. However, he stressed that any agreement must address what Moscow considers the root causes of the conflict, including NATO’s eastward expansion and alleged discrimination against Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine.Addressing humanitarian concerns, the Ambassador rejected Western claims regarding the forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia. He stated that figures cited by international organizations are inaccurate and reflect Ukrainian narratives.

According to him, during direct talks in 2025, Ukraine provided a list of 339 missing children, and efforts are ongoing to reunite families. As of early March 2026, thirteen children have reportedly been returned to Ukraine, with exchanges occurring in both directions.Responding to questions on the Middle East, Khorev condemned recent escalation involving Iran, criticizing actions by the United States and Israel. He referenced findings by the International Atomic Energy Agency, stating there is no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

The Ambassador also denounced the reported assassination of Ali Khamenei and attacks on civilian targets, including a school in Minab, calling such actions violations of international law that could further destabilize the region.Concluding his remarks, Khorev urged restraint and emphasized the importance of diplomatic solutions, stating that lasting peace requires dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and consideration of the security concerns of all regional stakeholders.
