WASHINGTON: Donald Trump said Friday that U.S. airstrikes against Iran are going “very well,” claiming that Tehran’s military capabilities have been largely destroyed.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said that if the operation were rated on a scale from zero to 10, he would give it a score of “12 to 15.” He added that Iran’s navy and communications systems had been eliminated and that the country’s leadership had suffered major losses.Trump also claimed that Iran’s air force had been “completely wiped out,” adding that all 32 Iranian naval vessels had been destroyed.
The remarks came amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Since Feb. 28, the United States and Israel have conducted airstrikes on Iran that have reportedly killed more than 1,000 people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, more than 150 schoolgirls and several senior military officials.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting U.S.-linked sites across the region. According to reports, a drone strike in Kuwait struck a tactical operations center, killing six U.S. service members.
