Vietnam, Russia Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Emergency Response and Rescue Operations

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and Russian Emergency Minister Aleksandr Kurenkov discuss expanding collaboration in disaster response, training, and technology during meeting in Hà Nội

HÀ NỘI: Phạm Minh Chính, Prime Minister of Vietnam, has called for stronger cooperation with Russia in emergency response, early warning systems, and search-and-rescue operations.The call came during a meeting in Hà Nội with Aleksandr Kurenkov, Russia’s Minister of Emergency Situations. During the discussion, the Vietnamese leader proposed expanding cooperation in technology transfer, joint production of specialised rescue vehicles and equipment, and organising joint emergency drills between the two countries.

Prime Minister Chính also requested continued Russian support in training Vietnamese personnel in fire prevention, firefighting, and disaster response.He noted that Việt Nam values the longstanding friendship with Russia and appreciates the support previously provided by the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation during Việt Nam’s struggle for national liberation and in its ongoing development.Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of bilateral relations in recent years, highlighting strong political trust and frequent high-level exchanges between the two nations.Defence and energy cooperation—particularly in oil and gas—remain key pillars of the partnership, while science and technology are expected to become an important new driver. The year 2026 has been designated as the Việt Nam–Russia Year of Scientific and Educational Cooperation.

Prime Minister Chính reaffirmed that Việt Nam attaches great importance to strengthening its comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia for the mutual benefit of both countries and for regional and global stability.For his part, Minister Kurenkov said Russia is ready to further deepen cooperation with Việt Nam’s Ministry of Public Security and other relevant agencies. He expressed confidence that with strong political commitment from both governments, bilateral cooperation—especially in emergency response and search-and-rescue operations—will continue to expand.
