HÀ NỘI, March 13: Vietnam is fully prepared for a major political milestone as millions of voters are set to head to the polls on March 15 to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term.According to Lê Quang Mạnh, Secretary-General of the National Assembly and Chief of the Office of the National Election Council, preparations for the nationwide vote have been carried out in a coordinated and systematic manner, strictly following the legal timeline and electoral regulations.
More than 73 million voters across the country will participate in the election, choosing representatives from a final list of 864 candidates for seats in the National Assembly. Authorities say the candidate selection process was conducted through transparent and multi-stage consultations involving voters at both residential and workplace levels. The National Election Council of Vietnam issued 27 legal documents, along with additional resolutions and guidelines, to ensure that all stages of the electoral process are carried out smoothly and uniformly nationwide.Voter lists have been publicly displayed at over 72,000 polling stations across the country and verified through the national resident database to minimise errors. Officials said detailed preparations—including ballot boxes, voting booths, security arrangements, and emergency plans—have been completed at polling centres.
Ensuring security during the election has also been identified as a top priority. The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Vietnam People’s Army have developed comprehensive contingency plans to prevent disruptions and maintain public order.Authorities have intensified cybersecurity measures and monitoring of election-related activities, while also integrating modern technology, including the VNeID digital identification system, into voter management and list preparation.Across the country, cities and provinces are making final preparations. Streets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are decorated with red flags and banners, creating a festive atmosphere ahead of the vote.Early voting has already taken place in several remote and specialised areas, including offshore platforms and island communities, allowing thousands of voters who would otherwise be unable to vote on election day to cast their ballots.
Chairman of the National Assembly Trần Thanh Mẫn has urged local authorities to remain vigilant and ensure the election is conducted smoothly, stressing the importance of national unity, strong leadership, and strict adherence to electoral procedures. The nationwide vote on March 15 is expected to be one of the most significant political events in Vietnam this year, reflecting the people’s right to choose their representatives and shaping the country’s governance for the next five years.
