Dar es Salaam: Rwanda and Tanzania have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with senior officials from both countries holding high-level talks aimed at expanding economic, strategic and regional cooperation.Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, met with Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, in Dar es Salaam on Sunday to discuss ways to further enhance relations between the two neighboring nations.According to Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on broadening cooperation in key sectors including trade, transport, investment and regional integration, reflecting the growing partnership between the two East African Community (EAC) member states.
As a landlocked country, Rwanda relies heavily on Tanzania’s transport infrastructure and ports to access international markets, making trade connectivity and infrastructure development central pillars of their bilateral relationship.The foreign ministers’ meeting builds on recent high-level engagements between the two countries. In May, Rwandan President Paul Kagame visited Tanzania, where he held talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan on strengthening cooperation and identifying new areas of mutual benefit.
During the visit, President Kagame described Tanzania as a strategic partner, emphasizing the vital role of trade and transport links in supporting Rwanda’s economic growth.President Samia Suluhu Hassan later paid a reciprocal visit to Kigali, underscoring the commitment of both nations to maintaining close diplomatic and economic ties.Nduhungirehe was accompanied during the discussions by Gisa Teta, Rwanda’s official in charge of African affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Rwanda’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba.The latest diplomatic engagement comes as East African nations continue efforts to accelerate regional integration by promoting greater trade, investment and cross-border cooperation, reinforcing the East African Community’s vision of shared economic prosperity.
