Turkmenistan is taking further steps to strengthen its national public health emergency preparedness and response system at points of entry, with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO).A meeting was held at the UN building in Ashgabat between representatives of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the WHO Country Office.
Officials from the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, State Customs, Migration and Border Services also participated.The participants finalized the draft National Action Plan for Public Health Emergencies at Points of Entry and reviewed progress in strengthening national response mechanisms. Particular attention was given to developing standard operating procedures for coordinated action during health emergencies at the country’s borders.
The meeting aimed to enhance Turkmenistan’s capacity at points of entry in line with the requirements of the International Health Regulations (IHR). WHO experts from global and regional levels also shared international experience, including guidance on IHR requirements, pandemic preparedness and simulation exercises.
WHO reaffirmed its commitment to providing continued technical support to Turkmenistan as the country strengthens its preparedness and implements the IHR.The initiative highlights Turkmenistan’s growing focus on border health security, coordinated emergency response and national preparedness for future public health threats.
