Uzbekistan Eyes Hosting Global Tourism Summit After Talks with WTTC

TASHKENT, March 11 (IN) : As part of the partnership with the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), an international organization that brings together leading companies in the tourism and hospitality industry, the parties are discussing initiatives to improve safety standards, service quality, and digitalization in the sector.

At the International Tourism Exhibition ITB Berlin 2026, Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Gloria Guevara Manzo, President of the WTTC, discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, including the prospects for the country’s participation in the organization’s global initiatives and the strengthening of industry standards.Based on WTTC’s analytical data, the meeting focused on accurately assessing the tourism sector’s contribution to Uzbekistan’s economy, promoting investment opportunities, attracting leading international hotel and restaurant chains, and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in the global tourism market. A preliminary agreement was reached for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTTC and the preparation of a cooperation agreement (based on the experiences of Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Malta).As part of the partnership, an analytical study of the tourism sector, B2B/B2C meetings with WTTC members and investors, the presentation of investment projects and the tourism brand of Uzbekistan on WTTC platforms, and the provision of expert support in sustainable and digital tourism are planned.

Additionally, the agreement includes the planned hosting of the WTTC Global Summit or one of the organization’s regional summits in Uzbekistan. This will help promote the country as a platform for sustainable and digital tourism, attract international companies and investors, and strengthen Uzbekistan’s position in the global tourism industry.
