Uzbekistan Expands Modern Vocational Training to Prepare Youth for In-Demand Jobs

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Khorezm Advanced Skills Technical College in Urgench, where he reviewed new initiatives aimed at preparing young people for professions in high demand in Uzbekistan’s modern labor market.The visit highlighted the country’s efforts to modernize vocational education, strengthen cooperation with employers and expand dual education, enabling students to combine classroom learning with practical workplace experience.Constructed with 72.4 billion UZS from the state budget, the 5.2-hectare college campus includes two academic buildings designed for 1,100 students, a 300-bed dormitory, a sports hall, dining facilities and two modern training workshops.

The college uses advanced educational programs based on the experience of Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, China and South Korea. For the 2026–2027 academic year, 200 talented young people were selected through a competitive process to study across 11 vocational fields.A key focus is close cooperation with employers to ensure that training programs match labor market requirements and that graduates have opportunities to find employment in their chosen professions.The college also serves as a practical training center for other vocational institutions in Khorezm region, with around 4,300 students receiving hands-on training in its workshops and laboratories.

During the visit, President Mirziyoyev also toured Professions Town, a specialized facility designed to help young people discover their interests and abilities at an early stage and receive career guidance.Operating under the principle of “Try Making It Yourself,” the facility allows students to work directly with modern equipment and develop practical skills in fields including transport and logistics, industry and construction, services, agriculture and green energy.The complex will work closely with major employers, creating an integrated pathway from career guidance and practical training to employment.President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to provide young people with high-quality training in professions demanded by the economy, continuously adapt educational programs to employers’ needs and expand successful vocational education models to other regions of Uzbekistan.
