The President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) Mr. Usman Shaukat delivered a keynote address at the AICoP (Academia–Industry Collaboration Platform) Conference 2.0, held at Iqra University, H-9 Campus, Islamabad.The conference brought together representatives from academia, business, industry and the diplomatic community to promote stronger university–industry linkages, innovation, entrepreneurship and collaborative partnerships.In his keynote address, Mr. Usman Shaukat emphasized the urgent need for Pakistan to invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information Technology (IT) and digital skills.
He said AI is rapidly transforming the global job market, particularly entry-level positions, making it essential for students and professionals to develop new skills and adapt to emerging technologies.He highlighted AI as a powerful opportunity for young people and the workforce to enhance their knowledge and expertise, even where access to high-quality educational institutions may be limited. “The next wave is AI and IT, and Pakistan must prepare its youth for this transformation,” he said.Mr. Shaukat also noted that Pakistan receives substantial remittances from the Middle East, where many Pakistanis have traditionally worked in low-skilled occupations. He stressed that changing technologies, including driverless vehicles and robotics, are increasing the demand for skilled workers and making technical and digital competencies increasingly important.
He called for closer cooperation between universities and the business community to equip youth with market-relevant skills, encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, and create greater employment opportunities.Ms. Natalie A. Baker, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of the United States of America, Islamabad, was the Chief Guest, while Mr. Sardar Tahir Mehmood, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), attended as Guest of Honour.
