TEHRAN: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, held high-level talks with senior Iranian leadership in Tehran on Tuesday, as Islamabad intensified its diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States and promote regional stability.Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, underscoring Pakistan’s continuing engagement with Tehran amid heightened regional tensions.
According to Iranian state media, President Pezeshkian emphasized that Washington must end its threats and lift sanctions before meaningful negotiations can resume. He attributed the regional crisis to what he described as US warmongering and stressed the need for a change in Washington’s approach.Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf reiterated Tehran’s position that the United States must fulfil Iran’s seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. These include lifting the naval blockade on Iranian ports, removing sanctions on Iranian oil exports and ending hostilities across the region.Meanwhile, Mohsen Rezaei firmly rejected the transfer of Iran’s enriched uranium abroad, reportedly declaring that not even a small quantity of enriched nuclear material would leave the country. His remarks reflected Tehran’s determination to defend its national interests in any future negotiations.Pakistan, alongside Qatar, has been pursuing diplomatic efforts to bring Tehran and Washington back to the negotiating table. The two countries have sought to facilitate an understanding aimed at ending hostilities and creating space for further dialogue.
However, the diplomatic process has faced serious challenges as fighting resumed and disagreements over maritime security and freedom of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz persisted.Pakistan’s continued engagement with Iranian leadership highlights Islamabad’s efforts to encourage a diplomatic resolution, prevent further escalation and support lasting peace and stability in the region.
