World Health Day: JICA Reinforces Commitment to Strengthening Healthcare in Pakistan

World Health Day was observed across the globe on Monday, highlighting the importance of public health and the need to ensure equitable access to healthcare services for all.Marked annually on April 7 under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO), the day serves as a reminder that health is a fundamental human right and not a privilege.

Governments, healthcare professionals, and communities worldwide renewed their commitment to strengthening public health systems and addressing key health challenges.In Pakistan, efforts to improve healthcare delivery, particularly for mothers and children, continue to gain momentum. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, has been actively supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing maternal and child health services.

These efforts include strengthening primary and community-level healthcare services in South Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, training healthcare workers to better serve vulnerable populations, and developing as well as equipping maternal and child health facilities in Sindh.JICA has also been playing a key role in supporting polio eradication by assisting in vaccine procurement since 1996, contributing to ongoing national efforts to eliminate the disease.Officials emphasized that such collaborative initiatives are vital in building resilient healthcare systems and ensuring a healthier future for all citizens.World Health Day this year once again underscored the global call for “Health for All,” urging continued support and investment in accessible and quality healthcare services.
