Pakistan, Thailand Explore Expanded Academic Collaboration and STEM Opportunities

Islamabad: Ambassador Rukhsana Afzaal held a meeting with Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), to explore new avenues for strengthening academic cooperation between Pakistan and Thailand.

During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of initiatives spearheaded by COMSTECH aimed at enhancing educational and scientific collaboration. Key proposals included the establishment of Halal Science Training Centres at Chulalongkorn University and Prince of Songkla University, as well as the provision of 100 scholarships for Thai students in STEM disciplines in Pakistan.

The discussions also covered plans to organize a Rectors and Vice Chancellors Conference in Islamabad, along with measures to promote stronger university-to-university linkages and joint research initiatives.Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding educational cooperation, fostering student mobility, and empowering future generations—particularly women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The meeting comes as Pakistan and Thailand mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, reflecting a shared vision to deepen engagement in the fields of education, research, and innovation.The development was shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, through its Office of the Spokesperson as part of ongoing public diplomacy efforts.
