Deputy Chairman Senate Directs Urgent Reforms for Parliament Lodges Security and Sanitation

Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan was called on by the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), SSP Security Islamabad, and senior officials of CDA at his residence in Ministers’ Enclave, Islamabad.

During the meeting, the overall situation of Parliament Lodges came under detailed discussion, with particular focus on security, sanitation, and drainage issues.The Deputy Chairman Senate apprised the participants of the concerns expressed by Members of Senate regarding security arrangements at Parliament Lodges and directed that security measures be aligned with modern requirements and made foolproof to ensure the safety of the honorable members. He instructed the SSP Security to conduct a comprehensive security audit, take immediate corrective measures, and present a detailed security plan.

Expressing serious concern over the poor state of sanitation and drainage, Syedal Khan directed the Chairman CDA to improve cleanliness arrangements on an emergency basis and take prompt and effective steps to resolve longstanding drainage issues. He noted that Members of Parliament, particularly women senators, have voiced strong concerns over the situation.He emphasized that provision of basic facilities to residents of Parliament Lodges is the responsibility of CDA and that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.Furthermore, concerns of Members of Senate regarding ongoing operations against informal settlements in various areas of Islamabad were also conveyed to the Chairman CDA. The Deputy Chairman Senate directed that such operations be carried out in a transparent, fair, and humane manner, and that elected representatives be taken into confidence before any decisions are made.

The Deputy Chairman Senate stressed that CDA and relevant authorities must improve their performance in ensuring provision of civic amenities in Parliament Lodges and across the federal capital. He directed all concerned officials to adopt a coordinated strategy to address these issues and to submit regular progress reports to the Senate Secretariat.The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to address the issues of Parliament Lodges on a priority basis and to ensure a better, secure, and dignified residential environment for Members of Senate.
