Lukashenko Arrives in Moscow for Victory Day Commemorations

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Moscow on Friday to participate in events marking the 81st anniversary of victory in the Second World War.Footage released from the Russian capital showed the Belarusian leader warmly greeting and shaking hands with members of the official welcome delegation upon his arrival.

Victory Day is observed annually on May 9 in Russia and several other former Soviet states to commemorate the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. The central event of this year’s celebrations is the grand military parade taking place in Moscow’s Red Square.Ahead of the commemorations, Russia announced a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine from May 8 to May 10.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry warned of a “massive retaliatory missile strike on central Kiev” if any attempts are made to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations.
