JICA Chief Visits Taxila Museum to Strengthen Heritage Preservation Efforts

ISLAMABAD: Mr. Shinozaki Yusuke, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Pakistan Office, visited the historic Taxila Museum on the occasion of World Museum Day to review ongoing initiatives aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Gandhara civilization.

During the visit, Mr. Shinozaki, accompanied by JICA officials, held detailed discussions with senior representatives of the Department of Archaeology and Museums, including Deputy Director Asim Dogar. Officials briefed the delegation on the historical importance of Taxila, ongoing conservation projects, and measures being taken to safeguard rare and priceless artifacts housed at the museum.Recognized as one of Pakistan’s most significant archaeological and historical centers, Taxila represents a vital link to the region’s Buddhist and Gandharan heritage.

The museum continues to play a central role in preserving and showcasing ancient relics and cultural treasures for researchers, tourists, and future generations.Officials also highlighted the museum’s broader role in heritage protection across the Taxila Valley, outlining efforts to conserve historically important sites and improve artifact management and preservation standards.

JICA’s support has further strengthened these conservation efforts through its project titled “Improvement of Equipment for Exhibition and Conservation of the Taxila Museum.” Under the initiative, JICA has provided a grant assistance of 48.8 million Japanese Yen to upgrade exhibition and conservation facilities at the museum.The upgraded equipment is expected to significantly improve the preservation of valuable artifacts while also enhancing the overall experience for visitors and researchers exploring the ancient Gandharan civilization.
