Mirziyoyev Calls EAEU Co-operation a Key Priority for Uzbekistan at Astana Summit

ASTANA, May 29 — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said expanding practical co-operation with Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries remains one of the key priorities of Uzbekistan’s foreign economic policy, speaking at an expanded meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana on Friday.Mirziyoyev noted that Uzbekistan’s engagement with EAEU member states has evolved into a comprehensive economic partnership, marked by growing mutual trade, deeper industrial co-operation, stronger logistics connectivity, and expanding collaboration in digital economy, energy, and services sectors.

He also stressed the importance of creating a “unified digital space for barrier-free trade” between Uzbekistan and the EAEU countries.According to Mirziyoyev, this would include harmonising regulations for e-commerce, improving digital data exchange in customs, phytosanitary and veterinary controls, simplifying certification procedures, and gradually introducing mutual recognition of electronic documents.

The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and Eurasian Economic Forum meetings are being held in Astana on May 28-29, bringing together leaders of EAEU member states including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.The discussions are focused on strengthening trade, economic, industrial and energy co-operation, enhancing transport corridors, and accelerating digitalisation across the union.
