Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu on Monday announced that Romania has requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) following a drone crash in the eastern city of Galati that injured two people.
Speaking alongside diplomats and representatives from allied nations, Toiu said she was delivering a statement on behalf of 56 governments, including European Union member states, NATO allies, and international partners.According to Romanian authorities, the drone entered Romanian airspace during the night of May 28–29 and crashed into a residential apartment building in Galati, causing injuries to two Romanian citizens.
Toiu described the incident as a serious matter affecting regional security and said Romania had invoked provisions of the UN Charter to seek an urgent discussion at the Security Council.“The meeting will address developments that continue to pose challenges to peace and security in Europe,” she said.The incident has drawn international attention and renewed concerns about the impact of the ongoing conflict in neighboring Ukraine on countries in the region.
