Action Demanded Over Alleged Misconduct Against Human Rights Organization Officials

MARDAN: Malik Fawad Hussain Awan, President of the Youth Wing of Human Rights Protection and Social Justice Pakistan, Mardan Division, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad to take immediate notice of allegations involving police torture, unlawful detention, threats, and the registration of a false FIR against office-bearers of the registered human rights organization “Human Rights Protection and Social Justice.” He urged that legal action be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law.In a press statement, he said that last month the organization’s Director, Sami Ullah Khan, Advocate of the High Court, submitted an application to the IGP Islamabad.

The application alleged that SP Islamabad Dr. Ayaz Shah and certain officials of Aabpara Police Station behaved inappropriately with the organization’s office-bearers, subjected them to physical abuse, used offensive language, and issued serious threats.The application further alleged that a false FIR was registered against the affected individuals and that they were unlawfully detained.Presenting his stance, Sami Ullah Khan Advocate stated that such treatment of individuals working for the protection of human rights is not only a violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan, human dignity, and the rule of law, but also reflects the possible misuse of authority by law enforcement officials.

He emphasized that if the allegations are proven true, the matter is extremely serious and warrants an impartial and transparent investigation.Malik Fawad Hussain Awan demanded that the IGP Islamabad initiate immediate departmental and legal proceedings against the officials allegedly involved in the incident. He further called for a fair and transparent inquiry into the allegations of a false FIR, physical abuse, unlawful detention, and threats.

He also requested that the affected individuals be provided with full protection and justice, and that legal measures be taken to compensate them for property damage, including damage to their vehicle, as well as for the mental and financial distress they allegedly suffered.He expressed hope that the higher authorities would take prompt notice of this sensitive and important matter and ensure transparent investigations and the provision of justice in accordance with the Constitution and the law. He said such action would strengthen public confidence in the protection of human rights and the rule of law in the country.
