Pakistan–Romania Cultural Ties Strengthened with Inauguration of ‘Romanian Shelf’ at National Library

Islamabad: In a significant step towards enhancing cultural and educational cooperation, the “Romanian Shelf” was formally inaugurated at the National Library of Pakistan, marking a new chapter in Pakistan–Romania relations.

The inauguration ceremony featured the donation of a diverse collection of books published by the Romanian Cultural Institute. Covering subjects such as history, literature, art, and cultural heritage, the collection offers Pakistani readers valuable insight into Romania’s rich intellectual tradition and vibrant cultural landscape.Speaking on the occasion, it was highlighted that libraries serve as vital institutions that connect people, preserve identity, and foster mutual understanding.

The newly established Romanian Shelf is not merely a collection of books, but a symbolic bridge inviting readers to explore Romania’s creativity, scholarship, and cultural spirit.During the visit, productive discussions were held with Director General Muhammad Ali Shahzad Muzaffar and his team regarding the potential signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Library of Pakistan and the National Library of Romania. The proposed agreement aims to establish a long-term framework for cooperation, including exchange of publications, professional expertise, and joint cultural initiatives.

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Eduard Preda, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Romania, renowned Romanian soprano Georgiana Costea-Glugă, who is associated with opera training at PNCA, and Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Member of the National Assembly and President of the Young Parliamentarian Forum.Special appreciation was extended to Masood Ahmad Qazi, Honorary Consul of Romania in Peshawar, for his valuable support in making this cultural initiative possible.This initiative reflects the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening people-to-people connections and promoting mutual understanding through culture, education, and knowledge exchange. Further collaboration between Pakistan and Romania is expected to expand in the coming years.
