Lukashenko Reaffirms Target of $100 Million Trade with Zimbabwe

MINSK, 19 February — Aleksandr Lukashenko has reaffirmed Belarus’ goal of increasing bilateral trade with Zimbabwe to over $100 million in the coming years. He made the remarks during a meeting in Minsk with Mabel Memory Chinomona, President of the Senate of Zimbabwe.Speaking at the meeting, Lukashenko said relations between Belarus and Zimbabwe remain strong and free of major issues, stressing the importance of implementing the agreed roadmap to expand cooperation.

He underlined that both countries must fulfill their commitments and ensure proper oversight of agreements through active parliamentary engagement.“It is very important for our cooperation that parliamentarians and senators oversee the implementation of the agreements reached — both in Zimbabwe and in Belarus,” he said, adding that significant efforts are required to achieve the targeted trade volume within the next few years.The Belarusian leader also emphasized the need to further strengthen parliamentary ties as part of broader bilateral relations.Chinomona expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet the Belarusian president and discuss various avenues of cooperation. Lukashenko described Zimbabwe as a key partner in Africa, noting that the country has played a significant role in promoting Belarusian expertise across the continent. He said several African states are now showing interest in following Zimbabwe’s model of cooperation with Belarus.According to official data, bilateral trade between Belarus and Zimbabwe exceeded $26 million in 2025. Belarusian exports primarily include agricultural machinery such as harvesting and threshing equipment, tractors, truck tractors, freight vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. In previous years, trade turnover between the two countries reached considerably higher levels.
