ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Algeria in Islamabad marked the 64th anniversary of Victory Day (March 19, 1962–2026) under the slogan “Eternal Glories and Renewed Victories,” bringing together embassy staff and members of the Algerian community in the capital.Ambassador Dr. Brahim Romani presided over the ceremony, which featured a memorial tribute to martyrs, prayers, and a Quran recitation.
The solemn observance highlighted the importance of remembrance in Algeria’s Victory Day traditions and offered the community an opportunity to pay homage.In his address, the ambassador underscored the significance of the March 19, 1962 ceasefire under the Evian Accords, a pivotal step leading to Algeria’s independence on July 5, 1962.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Algerian people and the National Liberation Front, recalling the immense human cost and the legacy of approximately 1.5 million martyrs.He also highlighted Algeria’s progress since independence and reaffirmed the country’s continued support for global liberation movements. Emphasizing strong historical ties between Algeria and Pakistan, Ambassador Romani reiterated his commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations through cooperation and mutual respect.The ceremony included traditional elements such as the hoisting of the national flag, moments of silence, and recitation of Al-Fatiha for the martyrs.
This year’s observance focused on national unity, the enduring legacy of the revolution, economic development, and the protection of sovereignty.The event concluded with a renewed pledge to honor the legacy of independence and to enhance Algeria-Pakistan relations, keeping the spirit of Victory Day alive among Algerians abroad and friends of Algeria in Pakistan.
