Islamabad, August 20, 2026: The Embassy of Algeria in Islamabad observed the National Day of the Mujahid with a solemn ceremony to commemorate the historic events of August 20 — the North Constantine Offensive of 1955 and the convening of the Soummam Congress in 1956, milestones that played a pivotal role in Algeria’s liberation struggle.
The ceremony began with a tribute to the martyrs of the Algerian Revolution, featuring the raising of the national flag, recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha, and a minute of silence in honour of the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.Addressing the gathering, the Chargé d’Affaires of Algeria highlighted the historic significance of August 20, recalling how these two landmark events contributed to strengthening and organizing a revolution that became a symbol of courage, unity, and determination.
He urged Algerian youth and members of the Algerian community in Pakistan to follow the example of their ancestors, who embodied the values of sacrifice, dedication, and selflessness. He also called upon them to take pride in Algeria’s glorious history and actively contribute to national development while upholding the country’s image and achievements on the global stage.The commemoration reflected Algeria’s continued commitment to preserving the memory of its martyrs and honouring the legacy of its liberation movement.
