ASTANA: Kazakhstan is further strengthening its national sports sector, with more than 30 specialized institutions currently operating in the field, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.The President noted that the newly opened University of National Sports in Astana is expected to play a key role in training highly qualified professionals for the country’s sports sector. He also highlighted the successful operation of the Center for National and Equestrian Sports.
President Tokayev said Kazakhstan hosts more than 1,000 competitions every year in traditional sports, including qazaq kuresi, togyzkumalak, assyk atu, kokpar and baige.He emphasized that national sports have been legally placed on an equal footing with Olympic disciplines, significantly raising their status and recognition.Highlighting Kazakhstan’s growing international sporting reputation, Tokayev cited the achievement of Elena Rybakina, who reached the World No. 1 position in the WTA singles rankings.The President said these achievements are the result of systematic government efforts, while stressing that significant work remains ahead to further develop the country’s sports sector.He also noted Kazakhstan’s growing role as a host of major international sporting events. This year, Astana hosted the Games of the Future, bringing together traditional sports and digital technologies.
Looking ahead, Astana is scheduled to host seven world championships in 2027, while Almaty will host the 10th Winter Asian Games in 2029.President Tokayev stressed that all major sporting tournaments hosted by Kazakhstan must be organized and conducted at the highest possible level.Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakhstan’s athletes and coaches on their successful performance at the VI World Nomad Games and presented state awards to the competition’s winners and medalists.
