Google Launches ‘Digital Pasban’ Initiative to Make Pakistani Families Safer Online, Reaches 200,000 Households

Lahore, 20 August 2026: Google has launched Digital Pasban, a nationwide initiative aimed at helping Pakistani families safely navigate the digital world through online safety tools, Urdu-language resources, and parental guidance programs.The initiative was announced at the “Safe Raho with Google” event and seeks to empower parents and children as internet usage continues to grow across Pakistan for education, entertainment, and daily activities.Under Digital Pasban, Google plans to support 200,000 households with localized Urdu toolkits, educational videos, and hands-on parental workshops.

The program brings together key partners including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Tech Valley, Beaconhouse School System, Jazz World, and HUM Network, with support from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination.The initiative focuses on four key areas of digital safety:

Google.org Commits $500,000 for Digital Safety Programs

As part of the initiative, Google.org has committed $500,000 to expand evidence-based digital citizenship and AI safety programs across Pakistan. The funding will support young people and adults in developing safer online habits and improving digital awareness.PTA Chairman Major General (Retired) Hafeez Ur Rehman said Digital Pasban reflects a shared commitment to creating a safer digital environment for Pakistani children and families, adding that the initiative would help parents guide their children toward responsible digital experiences.

Google’s Cluster Director for Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Frontier Markets Farhan Qureshi said Pakistan’s digital ecosystem is rapidly expanding and protecting children online requires empowering families with knowledge and tools rather than limiting access.Tech Valley CEO Umar Farooq highlighted that Digital Pasban would bridge the gap between technology adoption and parental guidance by providing practical resources and safety training for families and educators.

JazzWorld CEO Aamir Ibrahim said the initiative represents an important step toward building a more secure, inclusive, and digitally empowered Pakistan.Digital Pasban builds on Google’s previous digital literacy efforts in Pakistan, including the Digital Safar initiative, through which more than 300,000 students and 5,000 educators have received digital citizenship training. Google has also partnered with Punjab Province to introduce secure, AI-powered learning tools and safety curricula benefiting 1.5 million students.The initiative aims to create a safer online environment where Pakistani families can confidently benefit from digital opportunities while understanding and managing online risks.
