ISLAMABAD, Mar 16 (IN): Authorities in the federal capital are planning to construct a National Bus Terminal on 31 acres of land in Sector I-11/4, with the facility expected to accommodate more than 100 buses and provide modern travel amenities.The proposal was reviewed during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa and attended by senior officials including Member Administration and Estate Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafiz, and Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch.Officials briefed the meeting on the proposed site plan and traffic management strategy for the terminal, which is planned for Sector I-11/4 of Islamabad.According to the briefing, the terminal will include more than 100 bus bays as well as commercial areas, petrol pumps and designated parking spaces for buses.
The facility is also expected to include service stations, a taxi stand and a maintenance workshop to support transport operations and improve passenger services.During the meeting, officials informed participants that the proposed terminal would eventually be connected to the planned 11th Avenue, which is expected to enhance traffic flow and accessibility in the area.Randhawa directed officials to prepare a high-quality design for the project and said an open competition should be held among architects to further refine the proposed design.He also instructed the relevant departments to expedite the process of hiring consultants for the project.
The CDA chairman emphasised the need to develop an effective financial and operational model for the construction and future management of the terminal, adding that relevant stakeholders should be taken on board to ensure smooth execution of the project.He said the establishment of the National Bus Terminal in the federal capital would help provide improved travel facilities to residents and visitors and contribute to better transport management in the city.
