ISLAMABAD, September 10, 2026: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in collaboration with the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), and the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, commemorated the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day in Islamabad.Held under the global theme “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity,” the event brought together government institutions, development partners, educators, students, academia and other stakeholders to reaffirm their collective commitment to promoting literacy, lifelong learning and skills development in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. SUGAWARA Takayuki, Senior Representative of JICA Pakistan Office, underscored the importance of strengthening the link between literacy and skills development to help people gain better access to education, employment opportunities and improved livelihoods.
JICA also welcomed innovative approaches such as Each One, Teach One (EOTO) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which aim to expand learning opportunities and create more inclusive pathways for lifelong learning.Through its Advancing Quality Alternative Learning (AQAL) Project, JICA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting inclusive and quality learning opportunities for out-of-school children, youth and adults, contributing to a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable future for Pakistan.
