Kazakhstan, Mongolia Presidents Hold Talks to Boost Strategic Partnership

Astana: A formal welcoming ceremony was held at the Akorda Presidential Palace for Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, who arrived in Kazakhstan on a state visit.President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President Khürelsükh held bilateral talks in both narrow and expanded formats, focusing on strengthening strategic partnership and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

President Tokayev highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, describing Kazakhs and Mongols as “fraternal peoples” with shared nomadic roots. He noted that bilateral relations have reached a new level of strategic partnership, with growing intergovernmental and economic cooperation.

The Kazakh leader also praised Mongolia’s economic progress, citing a 6.8% growth rate last year, and commended ongoing national initiatives including the “Vision-2050” development plan and the construction of a new city, Kharkhorum.President Khürelsükh welcomed the opportunity to visit Kazakhstan after two decades and acknowledged Tokayev’s 2024 visit to Mongolia as a milestone that elevated ties to a strategic level.

He said additional agreements are expected to be signed during the current visit.Both sides expressed satisfaction over growing trade and economic cooperation, with bilateral trade increasing by 7.7% last year to exceed $130 million. The two countries aim to boost trade volume to $500 million under a joint roadmap for 2025–2027.

Discussions also covered cooperation in agriculture, mining, digitalization, transport, tourism, and logistics. The leaders emphasized the importance of resuming direct air routes between Astana and Ulaanbaatar, as well as exploring road connectivity.The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties through continued dialogue, business engagement, and enhanced people-to-people connections.
