MARDAN: President of Human Rights Protection and Social Justice Pakistan, Mardan Division, Malik Fawad Hussain Awan, has said that complaints are emerging from some areas of Mardan district regarding various methods allegedly being used to deceive innocent citizens, including the practice of lucky draws.He said that at some places, low-cost items are allegedly being sold at highly inflated prices by attracting citizens with the promise of winning prizes through lucky draws and lotteries. According to him, complaints have also been received that items worth around Rs. 50 are being sold for as much as Rs. 2,000, causing concern among citizens.
Malik Fawad Hussain Awan said that gambling and the trend of making easy money were allegedly being promoted under the guise of lucky draws, which could have particularly harmful consequences for the younger generation. He claimed that some young people had spent hundreds of thousands of rupees on lucky draws, leaving their parents burdened with debt, while financial difficulties and mental stress had pushed some youths into severe despair.
He warned that if such trends were not controlled in time, God forbid, the tendency toward suicide and other social evils among young people could increase. He said protecting the younger generation from gambling, greed and illegal activities was a collective responsibility of all segments of society.
Malik Fawad Hussain Awan urged Mardan Police to thoroughly investigate activities being conducted in the name of lucky draws, take action against those violating the law in accordance with legal provisions, and adopt effective measures to protect young people from gambling and the dangerous trend of seeking easy money.
