Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik Reaffirms Commitment to Protect Taxila Heritage in Meeting with UNESCO Pakistan

Islamabad: Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik held a meeting with Mr. Fawad Pashayev, Country Director of UNESCO Pakistan, and his team to discuss the preservation and sustainable management of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Taxila.During the meeting, both sides held constructive discussions on recent media reports concerning Taxila, as well as joint efforts to strengthen the protection, conservation, and restoration of the historic site.Barrister Aqeel Malik emphasized that Taxila is one of Pakistan’s most significant historical treasures and holds special importance for him as it falls within his constituency.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all conservation and restoration initiatives are carried out in accordance with UNESCO guidelines and international best practices.The Minister of State appreciated UNESCO Pakistan’s continued cooperation and technical support, expressing confidence that close collaboration would help preserve Taxila’s rich cultural identity and archaeological heritage for future generations.He further stated that Pakistan’s history and cultural heritage are a shared national responsibility, adding that the government remains fully committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to provide Taxila with the protection, attention, and care that this invaluable heritage site deserves.
